Colt Cr6920 Recall - I thought I would alert you to the safety recall issued today by Colt. The recall is due to Colt's discovery that some hammers outside of Colt specifications were being used in some rifle/carbine assemblies beginning in March 2021.
They have created a nice website that has a lot of information including the gun model, low receiver markings and serial number ranges that are affected by the safety recall. Stupid Question. Are Colt Cr6920's Still Ok?
When you enter a serial number into the Colt Carbine Repair home inquiry system that is not affected by the recall, you will receive this email. My email was found in the 'spam' folder.
I am very impressed with the comprehensive system Colt has put in place to navigate the download process.

Web Vision is easy to use. The two standard 6920s in the shop had non-retractable hammers, the two 6920EPRs were both retracted, so I think the lower two will go back to Colt.

Thanks for the warning. My latest LE6920 fails at recall range, but luckily I don't have any of those nasty hammers. If I did, I'd probably replace it myself because I have so many replacements and I hate sending things back.
I had the OEM old notch hammer installed which thankfully wasn't part of the recall - although my serial # was within reach.

The standard CR6920 is a basic M4 carbine with a round handguard. The CR6920 MPS is Magpul furniture and the CR6920 EPR is a sophisticated patrol rifle with a free float stock.
I Have A Question On A Colt 6940
I'm a little surprised to hear about the recall here... I go to Colt's website once a week and this is the first time I've heard of a recall.
They wished the shop would send new hammers. Not hard to replace and won't lose 2 from the list for two weeks.

Best guess - this is more about trying to ensure more old hammers get out of public hands than sending new hammers (or not). The best way to get these things back is to send the bottom back. It's definitely not the most cost effective way - so that must be the motivation (I'm assuming of course, but it buys them the most legal cover).

My 6940 purchased this year has a non-notch hammer but is marked 4 and G and is not recall worthy. I wonder who made my hammer.

If they were standalone weapons, I'd put trigger packs on them. They already had a few set up but these are retail guns so they went back for a factory exchange.

Colt's Manufacturing Company is a name practically synonymous with "modern sporting rifles" (MSRs) such as the wildly popular AR-15. It probably makes more of these semi-automatic civilian rifles for the civilian market than any other company, but earlier this month it issued a rare safety recall after a limited number of its guns were found to have problems.
"Colt voluntarily initiated the recall to protect the safety of its customers due to the possibility that some MSRs may be inadvertently discharged and because of its commitment to the highest standards of quality and customer satisfaction," Colt's Manufacturing Company LLC (Colt) announced. Safety recall issued last week.
"To avoid the possibility of death or serious injury, you should immediately stop using your MSR and do not load or fire until you have determined that it has been affected and, if necessary, updated," Colt noted. "Under certain circumstances, it is possible that some Colt MSRs may fire a second round when the trigger is released with a live round in the chamber. Colt has identified this condition as having hammers installed on some MSRs that do not meet Colt specifications. Hammer replacement on affected MSRs The problem will be fixed."
The gun maker said the problem was discovered during "routine quality testing" and did not lead to any injuries. The company is actively addressing this issue. The affected models will be fixed and this should not affect the price of the gun.

Certain AR-15 A4, Carbine, M4 Carbine, and M4A1 Carbine models purchased after March 5, 2021 have been recalled.
The recall begins on March 5, 2021 and only affects the following MSRs: AR15A4, CR6700A4, CR6920, CR6920-EPR, CR6920MPS-B, CR6921, CR6921-EPR, CR6933, CREPR93, CR93,CR96,3,R96,CR93,392-EPR and CR6920-EPR., CR690, LE6920-OEM1, LE6920-OEM2, LE6920-R, LE6933-EPR, SP633784 and LE6920SOCOM.
Owners of affected models need only return the lower receiver assembly for repair, which must be sent to Colt's West Hartford, CT, headquarters for a hammer replacement. Owners will receive packing materials and a prepaid FedEx shipping label for free return service.
"Federal law allows you to send the lower receiver assembly directly to Colt for repair and have Colt ship it back to you directly. Some states may require the rifle to be returned to you through an FFL," Colt added. "If you live in a restricted state, you must prove that the restrictions apply in your state and you are eligible to own the gun. Colt complies with all state and federal laws and requires proof that you are legally authorized to own an MSR before returning you to a restricted state, such as a copy of identification showing your status as a police or peace officer.
